When Lexi Shaw seduced Oakfield High's resident bad boy Tyler Flynn at the beginning of senior year, he seemed perfectly okay with her rules:
1. Avoid her at school.
2. Keep his mouth shut about what they do together.
3. Never tease her about her friend (and unrequited crush) Ben.
Because with his integrity and values and golden boy looks, Ben can never find out about what she’s been doing behind closed doors with Tyler. Or that her mom’s too busy drinking and chasing losers to pay the bills. Or that Lexi’s dad hasn’t been a part of her life for the last thirteen years. But with Tyler suddenly breaking the rules, Ben asking her out, and her dad back in the picture, how long will she be able to go on faking perfect?
My Review
I received this ARC of Faking Perfect by Rebecca Phillips from Kensington Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The cover of Faking Perfect caught my attention. Then I read the synopsis and I knew I had to read this novel. It sounded edgy, exactly the type of book I loved to read.
The characters were fun to get to know and I liked how they progressed from their own insecurities. Lexi was an interesting character with her need to have a secret physical relationship with Tyler, while trying to not have feelings involved. I really liked Tyler and how he gave Lexi exactly what she wanted meanwhile setting his feelings aside, at least for a while. The character that I also really liked was Lexi’s best friend Nolan. He was compassionate and a true friend to Lexi.
The storyline was decent but I felt like it could have been a little different. It was great when it focused on her family issue and her crush on Ben but I felt it needed a little more from her relationship with Tyler, especially in the middle of the novel leading towards the end.
Faking Perfect was edgy and I liked many things about it but it wasn’t an amazing read for me, although I still found it entertaining. I give Faking Perfect 3 out of 5 stars.
