Review: Night Walker by Aaron L. Speer

A young woman named Alexandra "Alex" Hensley discovers Sydney is hiding a very dark secret, a revelation that will challenge all she knows and endanger all she loves. Sinister forces, charged with keeping the secret for over two hundred years discover her knowledge and set out to fulfill their duty. The truth will not set you free.

MY REVIEW

I go through times where all I read is a certain genre. I used to love reading paranormal but haven’t in a few years. I thought I would give Night Walker a chance.
It took a bit for me to get into this novel. The intro had a lot of backstory and I'm not sure if it was necessary. What really pulled me in was the bar scene where some action began. This scene would have been in my opinion a better start to this novel. I also felt like the story kept jumping around too much from each character.
I do think that the overall plot was interesting. The author created some interesting characters that I really wanted to learn about and go along in the story. It had a good blend of action, drama and a bit of romance. Although with my present preferences I would have liked to see more of the story be centered on the romance, but that’s just what I like to read.
Overall an entertaining read.
I give Night Walker 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: The Truth About Him by Molly O'Keefe

For fans of Christina Lauren and Jodi Ellen Malpas comes the next novel in M. O’Keefe’s breathtakingly sexy series about a woman called into a journey of the heart, body, and soul.

We played our roles, told each other lies.

But now Dylan is no longer just a mysterious deep voice on the other end of the line. We’re face-to-face and our relationship is very, very real.

We still have secrets—but so much is crystal clear:

The thrilling danger.

The raw, naked desire.

The need to keep feeling the way he makes me feel. Forever.

Dylan is putting up walls, trying to keep me safe, but he can’t shut me out. He has seen my darkness and rescued me. Now it’s my turn, if only he will let me.

My Review

The Truth About Him is the second novel in Everything I Left Unsaid series.
My first thought when I started reading this novel was ‘Yay, Dylan’s point of view is now in first person’.  In the first novel I wanted to get inside Dylan’s head and find out what he truly wanted but couldn’t. So I was so glad that I finally could. But then I realized Annie’s point of view was in third person as opposed to first like the first novel. I felt sort of cheated again. Another drawback was that this novel had a slower pace than what I would have preferred.
What O’Keefe did a great job of, was creating characters that became real through her writing. She made them complex and created chemistry between Dylan and Annie. The intimate scenes were written really well and were sexy. My favorite character has to be Dylan, with his hard exterior but caring demeanor. I also liked that some of the questions from the previous novel were answered. Overall a good read.
I give The Truth About Him 3 out of 5 stars.

Molly O'Keefe

Molly O'Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.

REVIEW - WICKED LUST BY SAWYER BENNET

Wicked Lust (The Wicked Horse, #2)Cain Bonham is as big and bad as they come. After serving in the Marines, he’s returned home to Wyoming and now works as head of security at the exclusive sex club, The Wicked Horse. His job is to protect not only the patrons, but to zealously guard the secret existence of the club itself.

Sloane Preston is all about discovering secrets. As an undercover reporter, she’s determined to reveal the truth behind the facade of The Wicked Horse and expose it for all the world to see. She just didn’t count on her pathway into the club coming at the hands of one gorgeously scarred and bad ass bouncer who manages to easily possess her body and soul.

While Cain’s not looking for anyone to catch his eye, Sloane did it all the same, and he’s not bemoaning the fact that she’s as wickedly kinky as he is. As both get caught up in the sinful fantasies that only The Wicked Horse can create, secrets and loyalties will be tested and hearts will risk being broken.

**Warning: this book has sex in it. Lots of sex. Dirty sex. The Wicked Horse Series is a bit different than what Sawyer Bennett normally writes. While you’ll still enjoy fabulous characters, a suspenseful story, some witty banter and an epic romance, there’s just… a lot of sex. You’ve been warned.

MY REVIEW

When I saw that the main character, in the second novel of The Wicked Horse series, had a military background I knew I had to read this. I always love these types of characters because in my opinion they have more depth and are badass. Pair that with an exclusive sex club – Hooked!
Sawyer didn’t disappoint with Cain Bonham. He was sexy, was guarded by his past and was definitely a badass. Sloane Preston was also a great character. I liked the fact that she was an undercover reporter which added an extra element to the world of The Wicked Horse. I thought the progression of her feelings for Cain were steady, and loved that even though she was lying for her job she turned out to be this really trustworthy character. We also get to see the characters from Wicked Fall. I love to see old characters appear in the new novels and continue to be part of the developing story.
Of course I also enjoyed all the kinky sex scenes, one in particular – you will know it when you read it. I’ve always said that Sawyer writes these amazing sexy scenes and I haven’t been disappointed yet.
I give Wicked Lust 4 out of 5 stars.

Review - Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

Seventeen-year-old Mercedes Ayres has an open-door policy when it comes to her bedroom, but only if the guy fulfills a specific criteria: he has to be a virgin. Mercedes lets the boys get their awkward, fumbling first times over with, and all she asks in return is that they give their girlfriends the perfect first time- the kind Mercedes never had herself.

Keeping what goes on in her bedroom a secret has been easy- so far. Her absentee mother isn’t home nearly enough to know about Mercedes’ extracurricular activities, and her uber-religious best friend, Angela, won’t even say the word “sex” until she gets married. But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.

When Mercedes’ perfect system falls apart, she has to find a way to salvage her reputation and figure out where her heart really belongs in the process. Funny, smart, and true-to-life, FIRSTS is a one-of-a-kind young adult novel about growing up.

MY REVIEW

I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but the design was the reason I took the time to read what Firsts was about. The synopsis convinced me to read.

It had a racy subject but didn’t go overboard. Deciding when it’s the right time to have sex for the first time is an important decision teens have to make. I think even though this novel paired the issue with comedy it stilled kept the topic as an important choice. I do wish there had been other repercussions on certain issues that weren’t addressed fully.

I really like Mercedes even with all the many wrong choices she was making. I could tell that there was an underlying issue for the help she was giving virgins. My favorite character has to be Zach. I liked his personality and determination when it came to Mercedes. Laurie Flynn did an amazing job of creating realistic scenes and bringing characters to life.

I give Firsts 4 out of 5 stars.

Order Now
Jackson is the third novel in the Wild Boys After Dark Series. Jackson and Erika have a friends with benefits relationship. The issue comes in when Erika gets a proposal from her boyfriend who knows about Erika’s relationship with Jackson. It’s a big wakeup call that something needs to change.

This is the sexiest novel yet from the series. The intimate scenes are dirty and sexy. The chemistry between the characters is truly felt from the writing. I really liked that Jackson and Erika were long time best friends and always went to each other when they needed something. I got a sense of who they both are straight from the first scene. The banter between Jackson and Erika showed great connection.

It was frustrating to read how oblivious they were that they couldn’t see past what they truly wanted. I guess the author explained this with Jackson’s fear of commitment and him not wanting to hurt Erika. I still would have liked it to be clearer to Jackson and Erika how they felt about each other and had some other obstacle to overcome. I would have also liked to see more of Erika’s fiancé in the story-line.

Overall Jackson is a sexy read. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

So much for her reputation, not to mention her career.

A hot interlude in a supply closet after deal number two seems like the perfect illicit Christmas bonus. Unfortunately, when that "bonus" becomes the key to the final deal, he finds himself back in bed--so to speak--with Chelsea, and after their steamy tryst, he's not interested in keeping things professional

The cover of Compromising Her Position stood out to me. Once I read the synopsis, I had to read it. I wanted to see what this mistaken identity encounter would bring. That first chapter hocked me, and kept me wanting more after the supply closet scene, which didn’t disappoint in steaminess.

Rafe St. Sebastian is a very determined character. After being pulled into the supply closet with Chelsea and finding out that she mistaken him for another man, he becomes relentless to have Chelsea again, and this time for her to know exactly who is giving her pleasure.

Chelsea Wayne ends up working at a different resort to get a new start, yet she can’t escape Rafe and his determination. She wants to be strong and resist him but Rafe is too irresistible.

He brought his mouth to her ear. “You knew I wasn’t Paul.”
“No.” The denial, though immediate, sounded slightly breathless, slightly desperate.
She had to have at least suspected, at some point. He refused to believe otherwise. “Not at first. But when I had you clinging to the tables, trembling so hard you could barely stand? You knew.”

I really would have liked for Chelsea to have stayed in her first position and worked through her problems there.  It would have made her a stronger character and added an edge to the story-line. Samanthe Beck created great characters that progressed through the novel.

I give Compromising Her Position 3 out of 5 stars.

Tryst is the first novel I’ve read from author S. L. Jennings. The Synopsis caught my attention with the promise of many steamy scenes.

The author did a great job of creating characters with depth. Heidi is a complex character that took a journey of self-discovery. Tucker was a surprising character, in the way he reacted to situations, total surprise. Ransom was an interesting character; unpredictable would be the best word to describe him. He is also a sizzling sexy character, a true rock star that is irresistible yet he's complicated. He didn't do what I expected. I would have liked to get into Ransom’s head to better understand him.

I was a little disappointed in what the novel didn’t have. The synopsis isn’t really an accurate description on what really goes on. Tuckers feelings towards the night he and Heidi experienced with Ransom are conveyed differently. I have to say that it did have some really steamy scenes but not in the sequence or how I expected the novel to progress.

Overall it was an entertaining read.

I give Tryst 3 out of 5 stars.

“I dare you…to let me touch your wife.”
An audible gasp escapes my kiss-swollen lips and turn to Tucker, awaiting his wrath. He returns Ransom’s intent stare, his expression unreadable. Yet, the younger man doesn’t back down, cocking a challenging brow at Tuck’s silence. He remains unmovable, a master at the art of restraint from his years as a shrink. No doubt he’s had to answer some odd questions, but never any involving his wife.
“I don’t let Heidi do anything. She has her own mind…her own body.”
“So maybe I should be asking her.” A sinister smile on his lips, Ransom angles his focus on me. “Heidi, would you let me touch you?”
My first reaction is to say no—hell no. But Tucker quickly grasps my knee, capturing my attention.
“This is what you want,” he whispers. “He…is what you want. And I can accept that. This is your fantasy, baby. Let me help you make it come true.”
I search his face, waiting for him to break into laughter, but he’s completely serious. My husband is telling me to let another man put his hands on me—his wife. This isn’t right. This isn’t what married people are supposed to do. But even as that rational part of my brain lists all the reasons why I shouldn’t allow this to go any further, my body is already tingling with anticipation. My face and chest are flush. My nipples harden in exhilaration. And my mouth waters with the prospect of tasting Ransom’s skin.
Oh, God. I do want this. And now the decision is mine and mine alone.
“So?” Ransom asks, awaiting our fate.
Say no.
Say no.
Grab Tucker’s hand and get the fuck out of here. Go home and make love to him. Let that kind, good, gentle man be enough.
Once again, Ransom Reed steals the truth from my lips, forcing me to abandon all decency and sanity. Making me take the sanctity of my marriage and soil it with my own slick arousal.
In one single breath, I shatter ten years of devotion, trust and love. And although I know what I’m destroying by lighting this fire, I can’t do much more than stand back and watch it all go up in flames.

“Yes.”

Review: Faking Perfect by Rebecca Phillips

When Lexi Shaw seduced Oakfield High's resident bad boy Tyler Flynn at the beginning of senior year, he seemed perfectly okay with her rules:

1. Avoid her at school.
2. Keep his mouth shut about what they do together.
3. Never tease her about her friend (and unrequited crush) Ben.

Because with his integrity and values and golden boy looks, Ben can never find out about what she’s been doing behind closed doors with Tyler. Or that her mom’s too busy drinking and chasing losers to pay the bills. Or that Lexi’s dad hasn’t been a part of her life for the last thirteen years. But with Tyler suddenly breaking the rules, Ben asking her out, and her dad back in the picture, how long will she be able to go on faking perfect?

My Review

I received this ARC of Faking Perfect by Rebecca Phillips from Kensington Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The cover of Faking Perfect caught my attention. Then I read the synopsis and I knew I had to read this novel. It sounded edgy, exactly the type of book I loved to read.

The characters were fun to get to know and I liked how they progressed from their own insecurities. Lexi was an interesting character with her need to have a secret physical relationship with Tyler, while trying to not have feelings involved. I really liked Tyler and how he gave Lexi exactly what she wanted meanwhile setting his feelings aside, at least for a while. The character that I also really liked was Lexi’s best friend Nolan. He was compassionate and a true friend to Lexi.

The storyline was decent but I felt like it could have been a little different. It was great when it focused on her family issue and her crush on Ben but I felt it needed a little more from her relationship with Tyler, especially in the middle of the novel leading towards the end.

Faking Perfect was edgy and I liked many things about it but it wasn’t an amazing read for me, although I still found it entertaining. I give Faking Perfect 3 out of 5 stars.
